ABSTRACT

Introduction The Great East Japan Earthquake Disaster was caused by an earthquake and tsunami of unprecedented scale, and the human and physical damage has been tremendous. Recovery and reconstruction have been slow, but there is mounting hope among victims of the earthquake and tsunami that a fresh start is on the horizon. However, in the case of Fukushima Prefecture, where the reactor meltdown and hydrogen explosions at the TEPCO Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant resulted in the radioactive contamination of air, land, and water, the situation is far more complex and daunting.
