ABSTRACT

The Republic of Sakha is situated in eastern Siberia on the Laptev and Eastern Siberian Seas. The Yakuts native tongue is part of the north-eastern branch of the Turkic family, and is considerably influenced by Mongolian. Petropavlovsk came under Russian control in 1743. After the Soviet Revolution, Kamchatka was part of the short-lived Far Eastern Republic. After the collapse of the Russian Empire, the territory was part of the pro-Bolshevik Far Eastern Republic until its reintegration into Russia under Soviet rule in 1922. The Presidential Representative in the Far Eastern Federal Okrug appointed in late 2005, Kamil Iskhakov, criticized the tolerance shown by the provincial authorities towards corruption and organized crime when he visited Maritime Krai in early 2006. On 30 April 2009 Ishayev was appointed as Presidential Representative to the Far Eastern Federal Okrug. Following the Bolshevik Revolution, Magadan was part of the Far Eastern Republic, which was reintegrated into Russia in 1922.
