ABSTRACT

The Republic of Adygeya is situated in the foothills of the Greater Caucasus, a landlocked region in the basin of the Kuban River, surrounded by Krasnodar Krai. The Republic of Kalmykiya is situated in the north-western part of the Caspian lowlands. Krasnodar Krai is situated in the south of European Russia, in the north-western region of the Greater Caucasus and in the Kuban-Azov lowlands. Astrakhan Oblast is situated in the Caspian lowlands. Rostov Oblast is situated in the south of the Eastern European Plain. It borders Krasnodar and Stavropol Krais in the south, the Republic of Kalmykiya in the south and east, the Oblasts of Volgograd in the north-east and Voronezh in the north-west, and has an international border with Ukraine to the west. Volgograd Oblast is situated in the south-east of the Eastern European Plain. It has an international border with Kazakhstan to the east.
