ABSTRACT

A diverse literature has addressed the need for intervention of spoken language at the discourse level for speakers with acquired neurogenic communication impairments. Several articles have recently been published to discuss discourse interventions involving word retrieval or conversation for aphasia (e.g., Bhogal, Teasell, Foley, & Speechley, 2003; Brady, Kelly, Godwin, & Enderby, 2012). Some other reports have illustrated behavioral and cognitive training for speakers with concurrent cognitive communicative disorders (e.g., Cicerone et al., 2011). A major conclusion for most of these review articles is that appropriate remediation for individuals with acquired communication disorders is crucial and have great benefits to the service receivers as well as their significant others or primary caregivers.
