ABSTRACT

As theatre practitioners we know that juggling thoughts and actions is all part of the design process. Teaching the gestalt and synthesis of design is equally hard as doing it yourself. This chapter sets the teaching of design elements, metaphor, and script analysis on the back burner, although they continue to inform the work. Part of the philosophy of the course outlined in this book is creating tangible evidence of understanding the material by applying the newly acquired skill set to realized work. This chapter begins to bring seemingly divergent topics back to the script through design mechanics and research.
