ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the integration of 12-step programmes into clinical work with sex addicts. The authors start by discussing the origins of 12-step programmes and their evolution to include sex addiction. A description of various sex addiction specific 12-step groups, highlighting their similarities and differences, is provided. This chapter then explores how to effectively integrate the 12 steps into therapy, identifies significant milestones in the 12-step programme that benefit from therapeutic support and discusses ways that the recovery community can be used to support the clinical work being done.
