ABSTRACT

All living things depend on water for their survival. In addition to the part it plays in essential life processes, people also use water for transport, industrial processes, sanitation and recreation. It is a common inaccuracy to think that clouds are made of gas. However, they are made from tiny droplets of water suspended in the air. Water is essential for life. Having an understanding of the processes involved in the water cycle allows us to appreciate how we obtain fresh drinking water and what affects our weather. It is important to appreciate water as a precious resource. Children should, therefore, be encouraged to consider water-saving methods, both at school and at home. When writing a story or cartoon about the journey of a water droplet, children could be asked to decide whether they have met the objective, by assessing their work against a success criterion.
