ABSTRACT

Forces can make things start to move, can make moving things speed up, slow down, change direction or stop, and can make things change their shape. This chapter presents some of the concepts that relate to forces and their effects, and shows how and where they interact with energy, work and power. Forces are interactions between objects. A stationary object will remain stationary, unless and until it is acted on by a force or forces. Every object continues in a state of rest or of uniform motion in a straight line, unless acted on by a force or forces. A stationary object will remain stationary, unless and until it is acted on by a force or forces. According to Sir Isaac Newton, objects that are moving in a straight line at a constant speed will continue in that state until forces act on them that will change that state.
