ABSTRACT
Situating the children as agentic beings shifts traditional developmental paradigms by positioning children as active, social participants in both their own and adult worlds. Data collection involved two dictated and recorded sessions with the children, discussions, observations during the storytelling, story acting and drawing sessions. The storied lives of children are enriched, the adults, the listeners and learners. Examining the children's oral stories, story acting and drawings offered a more holistic view of understanding the process and experience in the multimodal analysis. Through viewing agentic spaces interwoven modes holistically, the children's lived experiences offered a deepened understanding into their perceptions of self and their worlds. Multiple forms of storytelling through telling, acting and drawing unfold the complexity and multidimensional layers of the children's lived experiences. By being both participant and audience through the story acting the children revealed their complex processes of meaning-making.
