ABSTRACT
Jade has a history in China of several thousand years. Jade has been an important part of religion and civilization in Asia; it has been used as a decoration, a magic icon, a charm for rites of worship and burial, and a status symbol. While other materials like gold, silver and bronze have also gained prominence in Asia, none of these materials has exceeded the position that jade has acquired—it is associated with merit, morality, grace and dignity.
