ABSTRACT

Dreamwork is also an important step in defining the field of the architectural discipline since it can allow a distinction between principle-based theories and constructive theories. The writing of principle-based theories is a self-gratulatory procedure used to demonstrate that the rational intelligence embodied in architectural artifacts and design procedures has been detected. Dreamwork casts future buildings, not through the discipline of principles but through the discipline of imagination. The discipline of imagination is an act of construction. Liturgy is a technology of the infraordinary transformed into the extraordinary. It is a discipline based on iconic thinking that plays a major role in architectural dreaming. There are three key actors in the present condition of architectural production. There is the client, on one side, the building contractor, on the other, and the architect, constrained between the two. This tripartite relationship determines the responsibilities of the architect and is fundamental to understanding the present condition of the profession.
