ABSTRACT

Burnout is a syndrome of emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, diminished interest, and compromised personal accomplishment that eventually leads to detrimental consequences to various facets of wellbeing – community, physical, psychological, spiritual, and professional. Resilience is the ability of individuals to positively adjust and cope with adversity, thus becoming an essential quality to buffer the impacts of burnout. Therefore, promoting resilience and minimizing burnout among students will lead to better wellbeing. The author has conducted a critical review on higher education students’ burnout, coping, and wellbeing factors. The impact of burnout on wellbeing and solutions for minimizing the impacts are discussed. At the end of the chapter, the author discusses the implications of the findings and suggests faculty and student development activities to promote resilience in students, enabling them to face challenges in educational and workplace settings.
