ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book also presents some examples of the application of a sexual rights framework for older people. Each has been built around the ethos of sexual rights and has directly addressed at least one of the sexual rights. The right to autonomy and bodily integrity explores the issues ranging from the societal messages about the sexuality of older people to the body-changing procedures of gender transition. The book deals with the sexual assault of older women. It outlines the key messages and recommendations for practice, policy-making, research, and activism. The book describe strategies for raising awareness of the sexual rights of older people by including critical sexuality studies and participatory action research to build evidence around rights violations and to engage communities in debating and constructing strategies for reform.
