ABSTRACT

Due to the biomechanical complexity of the golf swing, golf injuries and the athletic demands of the game are becoming more recognized. The mechanisms of golf injuries and the factors that may place golfers at risk are poorly understood or controversial because of the many factors affect both the internal and external validity of the published studies. The treatment of sports injuries can be time consuming, difficult, and expensive, making preventive strategies justified, not just from a medical perspective, but also an economic one. Golf is also one of a few activities that people of all ages and skill level can play, however, injuries can have participation-ending consequences. As such, preventive measures need to be researched to determine the best way to keep golfers healthy and able to continue their golf participation. Retrospective studies have been conducted since the early 1980s examining the injury profile in golf, with all suggesting the need for injury prevention.
