ABSTRACT
The definition of “city” should be carefully considered. On the one hand, we have the delimitation in the administrative sense, given the boundaries that are (legally) well defined. On the other hand, it is ever more important to consider “metropolitan cities”, in which urban areas previously distinct merge as a result of the expansion of the originating areas. In this respect, it is possible to refer to the definition of greater cities proposed by the European Union (Eurostat, 2013).
