ABSTRACT
There is a thread running through recent epistemology that can be captured by the term “conceptual scheme.” I want to show in this chapter why the notion of conceptual schemes led to a revival of historicism, specifically in epistemology and philosophy of science. The term “conceptual scheme” probably has neo-Kantian origins. For example an influential use of the term by P.F. Strawson, as part of what he calls descriptive metaphysics, extended into a study of Kant. 1
