ABSTRACT

Nonconforming output control represents a feedback loop within a process for handling outputs that failed to pass verification checks. Nonconforming outputs need to be prevented from use or delivery to maintain an uninterrupted flow through the production and service delivery processes. The labels should identify the item by name and reference number, specification and version if necessary and either a statement of the nonconformity or a reference to the nonconformity report containing full details of its condition. Correction is an action taken to remove the detected nonconformity, not to be confused with corrective action which removes the cause of the nonconformity to stop it happening again. Segregation is an action taken to remove a nonconforming item from the process flow while a decision is made on what to do with it. Action taken because of latent nonconformity may involve product recall, product alerts or the issue of instructions for correction.
