ABSTRACT

Top management have set the quality policy and agreed the quality objectives and means for their achievement (i.e. the quality management system). Top management should never be complacent about the organization's performance. Even maintaining the status quo to maintain market position, keep customers and retain capability requires improvement. This chapter examines the five requirements of clause 9.3, namely: organizing the management review; scheduling management reviews; carrying out management reviews; deciding what actions to take; and retaining evidence of the results of management reviews. Top management will not regard the management review as important unless they believe it is essential for running the business. The way to do this is to treat it as a business performance review. Opportunities for improvement may be discovered during the evaluation of processes and suppliers that may lead to improvements in the QMS, and this can be reported to management review for information.
