ABSTRACT

Chapter 2: An Introduction to Senior Transportation introduces one of the most important and distressing issues faced by older adults in the United States: driving cessation. We see that driving a car means freedom, independence, and control. Losing this ability, therefore, can mean limitation, dependence, and lack of control, even when other transportation options are available and accessible. The magnitude of these feelings should not be underestimated by those involved in planning or implementing senior transportation options.
