ABSTRACT

William J. Vatter almost became a career symphony musician and he played the viola, violin, piano, and French horn. Among his awards and accomplishments, Professor Vatter was named an Honorary Fellow of the Australian Society of Accountants. He received two Fulbright awards that enabled him to spend significant time in Australia and he had a great impact on accounting education there. Professor Vatter has also received the Alpha Kappa Psi Award for contributions to the field of accounting and he was vice president of the American Accounting Association, 1969 –70. William Vatter was a prolific author throughout his career and he produced eleven books, monographs, or handbook contributions, over fifty articles, and eleven book reviews. Professor Vatter’s prolific contributions of first-rate papers to accounting journals have displayed astounding versatility and insights. William J. Vatter was a leading researcher and teacher in managerial accounting and also in other areas of accounting.
