ABSTRACT

Two concepts inform my work using solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT). The fi rst is a clear understanding that I am striving towards awareness and not commitment with clients. SFBT is goal-driven and resource-based, with a natural movement toward positive change action. It can become very natural to focus on and encourage behavioural change. My personal focus is on developing awareness with my clients of possible positive actions: e.g., I get clients to talk about small simple actions they might take, encouraging them to remain aware of the good possibilities.
