ABSTRACT

The interest in quality education is a world-wide concern and recently the spotlight seems to have been on Asia. Not only do Asian schools excel academically, they also cultivate a culture of achievers. The pressure to succeed and excel academically is unrelenting, and this pressure is felt across the board – by the school, the parents and the students. In this chapter I will put the spotlight on the educational environment in Asia, and share some personal observations on the importance of education in Asia and its impact on teachers, parents and students. I will shift to how SF practice can make a positive difference with these challenges and examine some research on the effectiveness of the SF approach in education. I will conclude with introducing the nine compelling chapters in this section that relate how the SF approach was used successfully in the educational setting by SF practitioners in Asia.
