ABSTRACT

This chapter offers an analysis of the film and video practices of the Colectivo de Cine sin Autor (CsA), an emerging agent in local and national community filmmaking in Spain. It offers an overview of the theoretical and procedural perspectives of the collective, highlights different examples of their work with local communities and state institutions, and contrasts these practices with current policies and research about cultural diversity. The chapter delivers a detailed critical account of CsA's methodology and complements previous accounts that locate the work of the collective in a broad, global context of collaborative media. It highlights the complex network of amateur and professional participants, grassroots organisations and national institutions that coalesce in CsA's projects. From the perspective of granting access to audiovisual production, CsA is an initiative that signifies an important advance in terms of diversity.
