ABSTRACT

In a speech during a ceremony held on May 3, 2015, to mark the seventieth anniversary of liberation of the former Nazi concentration camp at Dachau at the end of the Second World War, the German Chancellor Angela Merkel stated:

It is the voices and the reports of the survivors that allow us all, including the younger generations, to fi nd answers to the questions, and to fully appreciate why the memory of the horror of National Socialism is so important and indispensable for us today. It is a memory that is not limited to memorial speeches, but a living memory that is committed to endure into the future.
