ABSTRACT
When we look back over the period that has just ended, we see that the fate of our national literature is bound closely to the fate of the people and the fate of mankind. The harm to the country caused by the ultra-left line of Lin Biao and the Gang of Four was, in the final analysis, done to the people; it was harm to their minds and bodies, to the material and spiritual conditions of their lives, to their advancement and happiness. Of all the destruction, it is the damage to the people's spiritual world, what is called “internal injury,” that is the most difficult to repair. Since literature is for people and about people, this damage could not help but injure our literature too.
