ABSTRACT

Through the concern of the Party and the concerted efforts of those in attendance, the Fourth Congress of Chinese Writers and Artists and the congresses of the various associations have completed their agendas; the congress has been a success, and today it is to close. During the congress there have been various differing opinions on some questions, which require discussion in greater depth in the future. The agenda has me slated to give a closing address. As of October, I became an octogenarian, and this congress may be the last that I shall be able to attend. Thus, emulating the practice of Comrade Mao Dun, I would like to take this opportunity to talk about a few of my own views.
