ABSTRACT
Much of maths is developmental. Some psychologists write about a hierarchy of cognitive development, but some aspects of development are simpler than that and others are more sophisticated. Maths is pretty much a sequential subject. For example, being able to subtract is a pre-requisite skill for the traditional ‘long’ division algorithm. Understanding place value is a pre-requisite skill for subtraction.
