ABSTRACT

The range of mobility of pupils with cerebral palsy varies greatly but is the area that has the greatest impact on a pupil. Some pupils will have little or no problems with mobility while others will need assistive devices. These can be walkers of varying types, sticks or orthotics that aid balance. Other pupils, whose mobility is more severely impaired, will require the use of a wheelchair to get from one point to another. Some pupils will require support to move their wheelchair; others will be able to self-propel their chair. Electric wheelchairs give pupils the maximum amount of independence to move around school or away from home. Some pupils will have surgical interventions that improve balance or correct gait.
