ABSTRACT

Parent Champions is an initiative set up by the Dyslexia-SpLD Trust to support parents and carers of children with dyslexia and other specific learning difficulties. It is about giving parents and carers a voice amongst specialist organisations and policy makers. British Dyslexia Association (BDA) aims to be the voice of dyslexic people and to influence government and other institutions to promote a dyslexia-friendly society. Dyslexia Action is a national charity originally formed by parents in the 1960s who wanted to establish a dyslexia institute. Dyslexia Action has a lively, easy to navigate website providing support to families and young people. It has produced an online guide for parents: How to navigate the changes in special educational needs and disability (SEND) provision. The Dyslexia-SpLD Trust is a collaboration of voluntary and community organisations with funding from the Department of Education to provide reliable information about dyslexia and other specific learning difficulties to parents, teachers, schools and the wider sector.
