ABSTRACT

There are several sources of stress that are caused by factors within the couple system, which is referred to as internal stress. Despite the internal and external sources of stress for couples living in Pakistan, no studies had examined their dyadic coping strategies. Given this lack of studies, one of the authors and colleagues conducted the first study on dyadic coping among Pakistani couples from a systemic transactional model (STM). Pakistani wives value love, respect, and care from their husbands and their husbands' families, and some level of egalitarianism between husband and wife. The English version of the Dyadic Coping Inventory (DCI) and the Evaluation and Nurturing Relationship Issues, Communication, and Happiness (ENRICH) Marital Satisfaction Scale (EMS) were used to examine the relationship between dyadic coping and marital satisfaction in Pakistani couples. Domestic violence against women in Pakistan is becoming an endemic concern. In the predominant Muslim culture in Pakistan, the parents' position is sacred; disobeying them is sacrilegious.
