ABSTRACT

Which is harder to write-fiction or nonfiction? If you want to inspire a spirited debate among young writers, ask them this question. If your students follow the pattern that mine have demonstrated, I predict they’ll fall into two camps; the first offering comments like “fiction is way harder because you have to make everything up, so the possibilities are endless!” and the other claiming “nonfiction is harder because you can’t change what happened to make a better story.”
