ABSTRACT

Recently, I finished reading The Other Wes Moore: One Name, Two Fates. In this intriguing memoir, the author (one Wes Moore) examines his own life circumstances and upbringing in comparison with and in contrast to those of another man with the same name (the other Wes Moore) from the same part of West Baltimore. Besides their name and city, the characters share a number of other commonalities, but there’s one key difference in their life trajectories. Just as the author was awarded a Rhodes scholarship, the subject was sentenced to life in prison for his role in an armed robbery where an off-duty police officer was shot and killed.
