ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book considers the aspects of nation and nationhood articulated in tourism and illustrates that both nationalism and tourism collaborate in the expression of nationhood and national identity. It suggests that an assemblage of images, emblems, and symbols of Nepali nationhood in various touristic settings is meaningful because they provide a venue for articulation of nation and its characters. The book illustrates that representation in tourism is a medium through which the culture and identity of the Nepali nation have been asserted to reaffirm its authenticity and uniqueness. It focuses on the exclusionary nature of Nepali national identity through tourism perspectives. The book also argues that tourism is one of the outlets of national expression, and by providing proportionate representation of all groups in tourism media, it can help to project positive and inclusive national imagery.
