ABSTRACT
You may arrive at this chapter thinking to yourself, “Why should I care about something like
this? My job is to present substance-not worry about style.” And while document design does
not appear in the bulleted list of a stage manager’s duties, style has a very significant impact
on that substance for which we are responsible. If the recipient of a schedule or chart cannot
understand the information you have provided, it is as if you haven’t provided it at all. By
understanding some basic concepts about layout, font, and continuity, the stage manager can
ensure that the time spent preparing and sharing paperwork is not wasted effort.
