ABSTRACT

2015 marked the official end of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) era. From their inception, African presidents and their citizens embraced these goals with varying levels of intensity. According to the MDG Report 2015, Assessing Progress in Africa toward the Millennium Development Goals, 1 while countries in sub-Saharan Africa were able to achieve some critical targets including increasing women's representation in national parliaments, reducing infant and HIV-related deaths, and enhancing access to primary schooling, many others were unmet. Importantly, goals of poverty reduction and improved child nutrition were unrealized.
