ABSTRACT

This chapter starts with the resource perspective and the data perspective and focuses on a healthcare case example. It also focuses on concepts and actual practice of resource allocation. A resource model should show the information about who actually performs a task. A process model should also capture the data perspective, i.e. it should describe the data required and produced by each task in the process. In Business Process Modeling Notation (BPMN), the chapter considers an association link to represent the input and output data of an activity. The important point to remember is that a BPMN modeling tool should allow to export a BPMN diagram into an XML file so that a workflow engine can execute it and other modeling tools can also interprets it. Ontology is a convenient way of describing a resource model. Resource allocation mechanisms were also described and discussed in the context of actual products.
