Visitors to the home are an important part of a handicapped Childs social experience, but people may stay away because they feel that parents have enough on their hands. Another important contribution to social acceptance is in the field of behaviour. Holidays are very important the freedom from chores, break with routine and the change of environment will seem to recharge batteries and help families to keep fit enough to continue to care for each other. Most organisations for the handicapped run schemes of their own, and social workers or occupational therapists should be able to tell parents about others. Playgroups are normally held on a part-time basis. Nurseries may be full time or part time and provide another stepping stone to full-time education.
