ABSTRACT

Integrating and addressing religion and spirituality in supervision and training is a process that is often fraught with complexity and many inherent challenges. Walking the tightrope of attending to, acknowledging, and respecting religiously and spiritually based values in supervision and training without imposition is not an easy feat. Even though navigating the arduous terrain of addressing religious and spiritual beliefs and values in supervision may prove daunting, it has become imperative that supervisors find unique and innovative ways to integrate these constructs within the realm of supervision. Otherwise the opportunity may be missed to include the potential for growth with not just the supervisees but their clients as well. Engaging in difficult conversations in supervision for the purpose of integrating religion and spirituality has become a very necessary part of the growth process. Those who shy away from it may be hindering a very important role in the expansion of the multicultural learning process.
