ABSTRACT

In the mechanism described in the previous chapter, I simplified matters by taking for granted the renegotiation outcome. Indeed, renegotiations occur and are not seen as signs of disloyalty. Headhunters know that such practices are common in the financial industry and that the hiring process can be brought to a halt in its final stages by last-minute renegotiation with a former employer.1 One director of a headhunting firm specialised in finance mentioned that roughly one employee in ten renegotiates with his former employer rather than going to work for the new one.
