ABSTRACT

In 1909, British Army Major Baden-Powell discussed “How Airships are Likely to Affect War” in a public lecture. He tried to make sense of the new airborne capabilities provided by aircrafts and airships and their impact on future warfare. Today, we are at a similar situation with regard to drones. This chapter gives a tour d’horizon of the use of military robots and drones in warfare, drawing parallels to the beginning of manned flight and discussing in detail the drivers of global drone proliferation.
