ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book talks about the overwhelming consistency of findings highlighting the poor representation of nature of science (NOS) in science textbooks across school levels, as well as nations in virtually every continent. It shows that irrespective of their conceptualization of NOS scholars from around the world agree that NOS representations in science textbooks are mostly limited and naive and merit concerted efforts to address them. The book explores representations of NOS in school science textbooks have now been conducted in countries across a wide span of Asian, African, North American, European, and Australasian continents of the world. It provides a holistic analysis and synthesis of empirical work exploring representations of NOS in school science textbooks across the globe. The provision of high quality school science textbooks containing explicit, informed representations of NOS is one important step in the right direction.
