ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the conflict, between 2000 and 2011; the United Nations Security Council adopted a series of Women, Peace and Security resolutions that mandate the inclusion of women and their concerns into every stage of the peace process. The 1325 resolutions are specifically intended for conflict and peace-building contexts. It examines the 1325 resolutions were extended in principle beyond the conflict context and if governments were lobbied to apply the same priorities to disaster prevention, relief and reconstruction. The Swayam Shikshan Prayog (SSP), about which she writes, was a consultant on community participation to the government after the Latur earthquake. The chapter focuses on prevention of sexual- and gender-based violence, Phillips and Jenkins point out that vocal advocacy of protection of those at risk makes a great difference. Restoration of access to livelihoods is a central part of relief and recovery. It discusses women and work, Bhatt reports that time and again women.
