ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the authors describe the approach for engaging in data-intensive research–practice partnerships. They collaborated with an educational organization around using data-intensive research methods to explore the organization's own data. The authors describe how they set the foundation for the data sprint over multiple years of collaboratively analyzing the CMO's data and working to improve the partnership over time. They explored ways of improving how they worked with each educational organization. At the outset of our efforts to develop data-intensive RPPs, the authors simultaneously embraced and questioned the assumption that data from digital learning environments would be beneficial to understanding and improving learning environments. They provide a chronological description of our partnership with Summit Public Schools. Throughout the project, the participating researchers met regularly to reflect on the partnership and to clarify lessons learned about the supporting conditions for engaging in collaborative data-intensive research.
