ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book explores one of the most crucial concepts of psychology, and one on which the entirety of a "true" psychology rests, in the idea of the psychological difference. It reflects on the logic of psychology, often further differentiating it from traditional analytical and archetypal theory. Following the idea that "psychology must be applied to itself and not only to patients or cultural phenomena like myths and fairy tales", Psychology as the Discipline of Interiority employs a dialectical method of inquiry and analysis, being an inherent theoretical, speculative, and critical psychology. With the notion of the psychological difference comes the recognition that the soul is fundamentally historical, that is the soul changes and develops through time as it gains further self-determination and self-awareness. In contemporary life, the soul knows itself directly as spirit or concept.
