ABSTRACT
The effects of resource depletion and economic growth on the quality of life depend primarily, but not exclusively, on the philosophical situation of the members of the society involved. For people corrupted by money and what it enables them to do, economic growth is a disaster—the quality of their lives deteriorates as growth proceeds. For others, higher income may open the way to a much fuller life.
