ABSTRACT

Human behavior is a river with many tributaries. Unfortunately, most psychological theories of understanding human behavior focus on one tributary and leave out the others. The theorists then develop a model of therapeutic change based on that singular focus. And then they argue why that tributary is the best and only one. This is not helpful for the working therapist or the therapist in training. Therapists come out “an inch wide and a mile deep,” being deeply inculcated in one model and unaware of, or unable to fully comprehend and use, the others.
