ABSTRACT

Chapter 6 covers the oldest children discussed in this text, from 48 to 72 months of age. Typical physical, cognitive, and psychosocial developmental changes are discussed. Common problems, such as ADHD, fetal alcohol exposure-related problems, depression, anxiety, trauma, and sensory problems are explored. A chart to assist counselors in differentiating between ADHD and other common problems is included. Information specific to counseling preschool-aged children in school settings is provided. Age-appropriate assessments and ways of working with children in counseling are discussed. A list of resources for further learning is provided at the end of the chapter.
