ABSTRACT

The modern era of royal events must be understood against a backdrop of an increasingly intrusive and pervasive media. This chapter considers royal events in a television age and explores the major royal events of the 1960s and 1970s, such as the 1969 investiture of the Prince of Wales and the 1977 Silver Jubilee, as well as the role of public engagements and the royal calendar of events in a modern world.
