ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we examine the impact that Diana, Princess of Wales, has had on the staging and management of royal events, including royal weddings, royal funerals and royal tours, and how her legacy after her death is partly the charity work carried on by her two sons, but also a more sophisticated understanding of media relations by the palace. While we cannot cover every major royal event over this period, we have selected seminal events as highlights, such as the royal weddings in 1981 and 2011, the Golden Jubilee in 2002, the Diamond Jubilee in 2012 and the queen’s 90th birthday celebrations in 2016.
