ABSTRACT

This chapter draws together the themes of the book and argues that there has been a shift away from royal events which emphasise power, imperialism and class barriers, to those which highlight pride, but also create a sense of community and inclusivity that binds a nation together. We consider the delicate balancing act that occurs between the need for change within royal events, while preserving the dignity and mystique of the monarchy. It concludes with a discussion of current issues affecting royal events which may form the basis for future research, such as the future of royal tours and the push towards sustainability.
